paused ..

Emboldened by the newfound sense of a lover’s urgency,
I decided to capture him on a canvas, switching from
pencils and charcoals to pens and markers, a riskier medium,
since each stroke was committed indelibly to paper,
my imagination took over, supplying from memory,
intrinsic shading, cross-hatching shadows, and blackness of
those eyes lit up by the magical incandescence of my kisses
their lofty plumes broken by silvery glaucous tones
I could spend a lifetime shading and refining one drawing
as he revealed his body to my pencils and brushes
but how could I promise living truly with him
for the rest of his life? Beneath the natural ogival cavity,
where his smile appeared, at the spot where lovers
caressed and women wished to consecrate, love was
quite worn away and polished. It was time to go home.
I was wandering the continent on an endless search
and then I thought it would be better to stay; where I was.

Two things; it is better to capture love in art and preserve it; and to go in contrary to one's own judgement, rather instinct, is not prudence - So, right you are in doing what you did!

Very well written - as always!

Is not art an attempt to understand secrets behind the nature of our own desires?dancing with our own senses..but to capture the 'moment live' you need great 'stamina' and control over catching butterflies,it is always difficult to get the right words..
Do i need to say more and destroy the beauty this post created?

Rakesh .. thank you. :) perhaps we need this wisdom in other matters as well ..

Capture love in a canvas and bring it alive with your passion...stay where you are if you are happy.

'I could spend a lifetime shading and refining one drawing
as he revealed his body to my pencils and brushes'

..a life time!

or more..even then the fingers wont tire..

intensely ever ..

I like this very much. It feels... complete. Like a fired vase, yeah?--rings solid.

... that idea of love being polished. That interwoven metaphor. Just a lovely little sculpture.

And the ending is good too--just the right note. (heard once that the hardest bit of the poem is the last line--to avoid the "thump"--which this does. In spaces.)

oh dear... *spades.

I would love to see that art, if only in my dreams, as in yours.
Sometimes, though, committal is necessary to move forward as two?

Absolutely wonderful. That I (though I) could understand it, made it even lovelier :p.

Long time since I read poetry on blogs or anywhere, and I'm glad I (re)started here.

Happy new year to you, aria.
