au revoir

It is all a puzzle -
falling in love
sensual bloom
alienation evolved
the years that passed
sans intimacies
and the present finale –
when silence seems obtuse
speech derisive
verbal good-byes linger
obscurely concluded
and the muted adieu leads
to shallow pool of speculation.

We can neither drift afar
from words already spoken
nor plunge deep through
into this silence forsaken -
but we can get domesticated
with the horror of our ghosts
accept its perpetual presence
and that will be the beginning
of a premature ending
after which there will be -
No going back.

With your words i swam in the deepest seas
And with your words i soared in the highest sky
Today the sun brought me two words
Tell me this is not a goodbye

Inconsequential July 9, 2007 at 11:58 PM

but we can get domesticated
with the horror of our ghosts

yes we can.

Another cool piece.

aria July 10, 2007 at 12:21 PM

Aakash .. wow that was damn cool little-poem. Thank you. Between you and me its only "adaab and tasleem" no khuda haafiz. :D

Thank you Inconsequential. :)

vi July 10, 2007 at 6:58 PM

and the muted adieu leads
to shallow pool of speculation.

Nice! esp. liked these lines.

Btw...tried commenting on it last night didn't work

AakASH!!! July 10, 2007 at 11:36 PM

Arz kiya hai,

faasle duuriyon mein nahin
dilon mein hain kahin
Har aadaab ki tasleem ho
yeh zaroori toh nahin
Khamoshiyon ke darmiyaan hi
hai khuda hafiz kahin
Lafzon ke maaynaat jahaan
mile hum-tum wahin.

parikrama July 11, 2007 at 1:57 AM

Elegant template.. goes quite well with your beautiful words.

asuph July 11, 2007 at 4:02 AM

We can neither drift afar
from words already spoken
nor plunge deep through
into this silence forsaken

Loved those lines. Loved the whole effort. Loved its brevity, and precision.

"silence seems obtuse"

how do you manage all this in one tiny poem?

and yes, the end! like a confident carefree stroke of a painter, or a followthru of a batsman who doesn't need to worry about what he just did. just keep on writing.

asuph July 11, 2007 at 7:47 AM

liked this profile too. very classic feel to it.

aria July 11, 2007 at 9:35 AM

Vi .. thank you. :) Do tell me if you have problems again while posting comments .. badi mushkil se ek template mila that I like. If it doesnt work properly I'll revert to the blogger ones.

Aakash .. did you write that? Lafzon ki maaynaat .. waah. That's awesome (whoever composed it!) I tried contemplating an apt response but can only think of filmy songs :( Do I still have a chance? sigh I always wanted to fall in love with a poet .. ;)

IW .. thanks. I'd been juggling with loads of templates lately. Wonder why, all of a sudden, it mattered so much that I find a right one.

Asuph.. thank you. I must confess I was stuck at the last line for few minutes and then thought, I should leave it there. :D The brevity idea is yours (from the 55 word story) This is the first time you've said something about the profile.. cool I'll stick to this one.

AakASH!!! July 11, 2007 at 10:05 PM

Well well well,
What do i tell?
Te truth would deny
my being humble.

Okay this one doesnt really rhyme but, one cant always. :p

Yes i wrote the small quatrain. And it was you who inspired it, so its yours as well.

As for falling in love, make sure you have strong knees. :)

AakASH!!! July 11, 2007 at 10:13 PM

Ohhhh and Thanks re. I love the way you write, and so it means a lot!

aria July 12, 2007 at 1:10 AM

If I'm inspiring you already, its good enough reason for me to 'work' on my knees. Give me 6 months, will ask again. Vitamins, calciums and some exercise should do the trick. :D

pS- the feeling is mutual @ writing and I hope you won't mind a bit of nonsense .. aadat se majboor hain hum .. hehe

AakASH!!! July 12, 2007 at 1:41 AM

Ohh all non-sense of anykind from you is welcome. But you just broke a broken heart by calling it thus.

AakASH!!! July 12, 2007 at 1:58 AM

There is a question, i will ask. But maybe today, is not the day.

aria July 12, 2007 at 2:03 AM

Arre nahi you didn't understand .. it starts as nonsense then becomes the only sense .. and finally gets back to being nonsense. But in this case, I'm hoping we'll make lot of sense together :D
What question ? I'm curious!

The Hermit of Wandering Thoughts July 12, 2007 at 4:28 AM

yes we can learn to live with the Ghost of Christmas Past.

Memorial ghosts are always around waiting for a gesture, or a look to come haunt you again.. I live in the graveyard of antiquated memory.

I wanted to build a palace but all I managed was a hovel filled with longing and desire.

very touching this one Aria.

asuph July 12, 2007 at 10:04 PM

lol, feels young to be on this blog, among all you young people (including iw, who's still young at heart).

and why does one need strong knees to fall in love? to run away when you fall out of it?

aria July 13, 2007 at 2:10 AM

Zofo .. that was touching comment too. Thank you.

Asuph .. :D hehehe that's a valid question, I hope Aakash can enlighten me on this. I was only thinking about 'falling' and not about 'running' thanks for that... its in my interest, double interest to be precise.
pS IW also has a young head(with dyed hair) but I better not say anything more. He doesn't like my feminist jokes..

asuph July 13, 2007 at 2:49 AM

now, now, you're being unkind to our hero. i don't think he does not enjoy your feminist jokes, i think rather he's afraid you won't enjoy *his* feminist jokes.

and at some level he wants you to be offended by them too. you know, hate is the first step towards love.

all in all, iw is a nice guy with absolutely wrong instincts. he attacks when he should be embracing, he embraces the attackers, he runs away from promising opportunities, and then bangs his head where even the owner has lost the key. you should just look beyond that handicap.

AakASH!!! July 13, 2007 at 3:35 AM

In as much as you would like to know, more than that i need to ask. But then maybe I dont know how, maybe i dont know when? Most of all i dont know where?

But i will, and its my word.

@Asuph: 'Knees' is a reference to the Aerosmith number, 'Falling in Love (is so hard on your knees)', which might take its inspirations from weakening of knees in love.

aria July 13, 2007 at 3:55 AM

Ok Asuph, coz you, I repeat YOU say so, I'll give him the benefit of doubt & suspend a 'mahila-morcha' I'd been planning against him but he was terribly rude to me so that 'incident' will remain forever engraved in my elephantine memory. *sigh*

Aakash.. nice to see you back. For a moment I was worried if you ran away on your 'strong' knees :D ok ok kidding .. hmm that has piqued my curiosity much much more ... I'll wait for the question..

asuph July 13, 2007 at 5:06 AM

akash miyaan,

if you start getting your philosophy from Aerosmith, then i can say no more.

and aria,

i think iw is cursing me now. imagine, instead of pyaasa going to kua, kua (or lots and lots of them) were coming to him. and i spoiled the plans! and iw was rude to you? RUDE? sure you're not mistaken?

AakASH!!! July 13, 2007 at 5:19 AM

@Asuph: Newton found gravity from an apple. Benzene came from a dream. Can you imagine those long equations all catalysed by one moment of impact?

I just borrowed a phrase from a song, and that too in jest. =)

*see thats philosophising, Chekhovian characters' favorite pastime*

@Aria: Ohh i have done enough damage to my knees, and how can one run away from a song?

aria July 13, 2007 at 9:25 AM

Asuph.. lol @ kua. He should be thankful you saved him from 'chappals' and what can I say .. ok he wasn't RUDE he was MEAN!

Aakash .. c'mon we are all kidding. Asuph asked/said that in jest too. :) The only serious thing is, I'm waiting for the question.

cheti July 13, 2007 at 10:55 AM

have you ever tagged anything as "serious" or "caligraphed" instead of crap and scribble ?

Beautiful !

parikrama July 13, 2007 at 8:11 PM

Alright the time has come for me to put a word in. Since asuph was anyway charginging me 100 SGD per each defensive volley, I thought, I might aswell let him do the hard work while I rummaged through my Ghulam Ali collection..

In past 4 days :

1> My hairdresser commented that I seem to have aged 5 years, since the last she saw me..

2> Day before yesterday, quite uncharacteristically I put gawd-awful amount of salt while making bread-upmaaa for dinner. I am otherwise known to be quite a competent cook.

3> Yesterday I burnt my hand while opening the pressure cooker.

4> I am listening to Ghulam Ali at 10 O'clock on a Saturday morning.

Well since i have pledged not to state the obvious, I won't go so far as to relate the above events to a certain thing which happened 4 days back.

"Tamam Umr Bhar Teraa Intezar Hum Ne Kiyaa..
Eis Intezaar Mein, Kis Kis Se Pyaar Hum Ne kiyaa..

Talaash-e-Dost Ko Eik Umr Chaahiye, Aye Dost..
Ke Eik Umr Teraa Intezaar Hum Ne Kiyaaa.."

asuph July 13, 2007 at 8:53 PM

iw iw iw!
didn't i tell you that while you're taking my legal advice you should ummm keep your mouth shut?
now look what you've done. you've lost another $100 (s'pori) and you're right where you started.

and there i was telling her about how you're "still" young at heart, although you're elder than me. and then you go out wearing your heart on the sleeve in a desperate attempt to earn emotional brownie points, after being "mean" to the same person! sigh.

as a consolation, i'm waving off all my fees on this case so far, and dropping it. i'd rather not have this embarrassment attached to my otherwise blemish less practice.

al vida,

vi July 13, 2007 at 9:08 PM

No, it was probably my computer...this is a nice template!
LOL at the banter going here...akaash, aria, asuph, parikarma/iw

asuph July 13, 2007 at 10:43 PM

lol @ akash. you've left me speechless with that *philosophising*. I must say, I'm eating my words, instead of apples.

hopefully i wouldn't ever have to eat either benzene or snakes.

aria July 14, 2007 at 12:17 AM

Cheti .. Thank you! I label them randomly, but I'll call my scribbles, gem, next time. hehe :D

Vi .. OK! Thats cool. I'm feeling at home in this template, finally.

Asuph .. I don't have any hope here. I should 'look' elsewhere :( You can see my plight with these 'choices'. lol Thank you for all your effort. As I keep insisting - 'mera bad luck hi kharaab hai'

IW .. I started my day with Mehdi Hassan .. and here is what I'm listening to ..
'dost bankar bhi nahi saath nibhaanewala,
wohi andaaz hai zaalim ka zamaanewaala
muntazir kis kaa hoon tooti huyi dahaleez pe main
kaun aayegaa yahaan kaun hai aanevaala
tum taqalluf ko bhi ikhalaas samajhate ho faraz
dost hota nahin har haath milaanevaala"

parikrama July 14, 2007 at 12:33 AM

I was going to add in my previous comment that take this additional 100$ (addition to the 100$ cheque which i posted yest) and please stop being the devil's advocate. For one thing I don't wear Prada and for another thing you are not an advocate, You are just plain hack. Okay admit it, you were made to sit late in office for US Conference call yesterday nite & today they dragged you to work on Saturday morning. That probably explains why you are investing your time and energy on what is basically a lost cause.

parikrama July 14, 2007 at 12:42 AM

Aria ji,

You very well know that i don't understand those hoity-toity urdu laffzz..Still you use them to torture me.

I will have to lookup "Muntazir" and "Ikhalaas" in my Urdu-2-English dictionary before responding to your latest salvo.

Anyways that will have to wait.. right now I am feeling too drowsy.. (did i tell you that I didn't sleep a wink last nite ?) So off i go to take my well deserved siesta.

aria July 14, 2007 at 12:47 AM

Ok ji, sleep well .. aap raat ko soye nahi iske liye bhi ek sher hai ..

"jinke hum 'muntazir' rahe, mil gaye unko aur humsafar shayad"

Dekhte hain .. what your dictionary says .. TC

I didn't know, this good-bye poem that I'd scribbled, (the very same day another unfortunate incident had happened) & I'll eventually have to dedicate this, to you :| Or perhaps I’ve scribbled another one – that will be apt in this situation ..
PS - Subah subah I got up on a Sunday to read this.. I'm heading to a music store for more Mehdi Hassan & Ghulam Ali.
(aap bhi toh rok sakte they .. ? you are way to eager to let go.. sigh yeh na thi humaari kismat .. and blah blah ..)

parikrama July 15, 2007 at 12:41 AM

So my comment contributed in a small way to bolster the sales of ailing music industry :) Isn't that a good thing ?

Okay i promise not post such depressing comment(s), not on a Sunday morning atleast.

Take Care mate.

asuph July 15, 2007 at 1:09 AM

jabi sajda karte hi karte gayi,
huq-e-bandagi hum ada kar chale!

wah iw!

aria July 15, 2007 at 3:23 AM

IW .. Aisa bhi nahi hai .. don't be so formal but guess we are back to square one and all that. Its actually one of my favorite poem and I remember it by-heart. Nice of you, to quote it, I wish though, it isn’t true in our case and our paths will cross again. “musaafir ho tum bhi .. musaafir hoon main bhi .. kisi mod pe phir mulaqaat hogi” who knows ..on that positive note..
You too take care. Hope you had a great Sunday.

Asuph .. Waah :)

PS - I was trying to remember that song.. I think its from baazar .. Now I'll have to search for it also .. music industry has loads to profit from my current state.

asuph July 15, 2007 at 9:19 PM

yup it's from bazar. dikhai diye yun... one of my all time favorites... and not just as a song... the lyrics are amazing.

AakASH!!! July 16, 2007 at 1:35 AM

Of course jest! :-)

But i am prone to chronic dramatisation. Bad upbringing in the company of words, perhaps. Or maybe too much of watching movies like Deewaar!

AakASH!!! July 16, 2007 at 1:36 AM

Kaifi and Faraaz! Interesting combo for a rainy weekend. =)

aria July 16, 2007 at 10:08 AM

Asuph .. I've been humming that song, since you posted those lines. Found it, online today, somewhere :D

Aakash .. You were missing during the weekend .. :) Hope you had a better 'combo' , offline ;)

I have an extremely bad habit of reproducing the stuff that u write but i cant help my self

"but we can get domesticated
with the horror of our ghosts
accept its perpetual presence
and that will be the beginning
of a premature ending
after which there will be -
No going back.

with ur words i simply can imagine and mind really doesnt have to labour ..... "when silence is obtuse .... when i need no other voice

Amazing lines.... the backwashes of the very first experience.

Wecan neither drift afar
from words already spoken
nor plunge deep through
into this silence forsaken -
but we can get domesticated
with the horror of our ghosts
accept its perpetual presence."

First experience islike that never preplanned, that's why we call it "falling in love.... instigated by curiosity rather than reality...
wat u 've to say???
